Set Designer & Model Maker

Statement
After studying Media Makeup, Prosthetics and Hair at college, I had planned to progress into the costume sector of the industry. However after joining the Creative Arts course at UCA, I discovered my love for set design and model making. I have become passionate about taking a narrative and finding a way to bring it to the stage in a way that people may never have seen or experienced before. The in-depth research process leading up to the design is something that I thoroughly enjoy as I like to push myself to find inspiration in the most unlikely places. Additionally I love working with materials to create an environment that may not have been the obvious choice for the time period or setting of the original story.

Strengths
I have excellent time management skills and am always punctual in starting the day and meeting deadlines. Employment outside of my degree has enabled me to practice my natural leadership qualities as well adapting myself to work as part of a group, in which I like to push myself and those around me to work to the best of our abilities.

Skills
- Set Designing
- Model Making
- Working to Scale
- Working to a Budget
- Technical Drawing

Statement
I have continuously been interested in music and performing arts, which is where my enjoyment in design derives from. I have gained experience as dressers and wardrobe assistants for productions such as Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar World Tour and Radio Times the Musical. For inspiration I often look to designers and artists such as Vivienne Westwood, Es Devlin, Jean Paul Gaultier, Jeff Koons David Lachapelle and Colleen Atwood. I am particularly interested in contemporary dance and large scale pop performances.

Strengths
My strengths include designing for bold and garish projects. I am consistent in upholding themes and am unafraid to use a strong sense of colour. I enjoy designing to a specific style or theme, which I believe enables me to create successful set and costume designs.

Statement
I have always had a passion for art but it wasn’t until I went to college and studied Production Arts that I realised I wanted a career within the creative arts industry for theatre and film. Through my time at college I was lucky enough to have the experience of working in the theatre as a costume designer/ maker and set designer. I love the atmosphere from working within the theatre, that adrenaline rush you get when the curtains go up is a feeling ill never want to forget. This then led me on to studying BA(Hons) Creative Arts for Theatre and Film where I specialised in costume design and construction, especially period style clothing. Even though I specialise in costume I still have an interest in prop making and scenic arts. I am really looking forward to working within the industry and meeting like-minded people and learning new things.

Strengths
I am a very reliable and motivated artist/designer who can meet deadlines and work within a set budget. I am very artistic and have a creative mind which shows through my work as a costume designer/maker and a set designer and I’m very thorough in my work. I can work on my own initiative without supervision. I am very outgoing. As well as my work within costume and set design I am also experienced in prop making.

- Costume design & construction
